What is the benchmark component?

The benchmark component enables users to evaluate topics and compare them against a standard or other users.

Why use the benchmark component?

The benchmark component is useful to gather user data on a particular topic whilst letting users see how they rank in comparison to other users.

How to use the benchmark component

 

Get Started

To set up the benchmark component you will need to:

  1. Add the benchmark
  2. Configure the question component
  3. Configure the answer component
  4. Add more benchmark questions and answers
  5. Configure results
  6. Test your benchmark

Step 1 – Add the benchmark

  1. Add the benchmark screen template to your app using the “Add screen” button
  2. When configuring your benchmark, you will note that there are three important components
    Benchmark, question, answer, and result. The screen template will already have these in place but to view all components, scroll through the add components menu where you will find the helpers section

  3. For a new benchmark drag and drop the benchmark component to the screen.  This is the main component and all questions, answers and the result will need to be added inside this component
  4. The screen template already has the structure set up, to amend and configure the screen template, select the benchmark component
  5. Using the settings menu on the right hand side, add a title for your benchmark
  6. Enable drag & drop mode – tick yes to enable this option if you wish to add other components into this question such as images or videos for example
  7. Save & close

Step 2 – Configure the question component

  1. Now, click on the question component
  2. Type your question
  3. Enable drag & drop mode – tick yes to enable this option if you wish to add other components into this question such as images or videos
  4. Under “Answers” click the add answer button to add the possible answers, or click an existing answer to edit it
  5. Re-order your answers by clicking and dragging on the dots icon
  6. Delete by hovering over the answer with your mouse and clicking on the trash can icon
  7. Once all of your questions have been configured, select save & close

Step 3 – Configure the answer component

  1. Click on the answer component to open up the settings
  2. Type your answer title
  3. Optionally add a description to further explain the benchmark answer
  4. Save & close
  5. If you are using an existing answer from the screen template click the chart to edit it or, for a new answer, drag and drop one of the chart components into the answer component
    1. Chart, or data visualization, components allow you to display charts that showcase data by connecting to a data source
    2. There are six types of chart components: columns, bars, pies, donuts, lines, and scatters
  6. Select the relevant data source for your chart, or click to create a new one – you can start the chart with existing data, or rely on the data submitted by users to create the benchmark
  7. Choose your chart display settings
  8. Chart name – The question title must exactly match the chart name in the answer component
  9. Save & close

Step 4 – Add more benchmark questions and answers

The screen template uses 3 questions by default. To add more questions and answers you will need to:

  1. On your Benchmark screen, select the “add components” option from the right-hand side toolbar
  2. Scroll through the components to the helpers section
  3. If you’re starting from scratch start by dragging and dropping a benchmark component to the screen 
  4. Next, drag and drop a question component inside the assessment component
  5. Follow the instructions highlighted above on step 2 and step 3

Step 5 – Configure Results

  1. Once you have configured all of your questions and results, scroll down and click the result component
  2. Add the benchmark name
  3. How would you like your results displayed? – Using the rich text box, customize the message to display the results to your users 
  4. Enable drag & drop mode – tick yes to enable this option if you wish to add other components into this question such as images or videos
  5. Benchmark result data source – select the data source to save the benchmark results
  6. Create an email to send the results via the device/browser – tick enable to give users the option to send their assessment results via email 
    Using the rich text box, create an email template using the following variables:

    1. {% pageUrl %} – This will display the web app URL for the benchmark screen
    2. {% appUrl %} – This will display the web app URL
    3. {% appName %} – This will display the name of the app
    4. {% title %} – This will display the title of the assessment
    5. {% results %} – this will display the results in question and answer format
  7. Send an email to request assistance – tick enable to allow users to request assistance
    1. Add an email address where request assistance email should be sent to
    2. Use the rich text box to configure the email template, the same variables from the results email apply
  8. Link users to an expert directory – tick enable to add a link to an expert directory screen in your app 
    1. Select a screen to direct users to
    2. Select an animation for how the screen will appear
  9. Share results with other users  – tick enable to give users the option to share their results with other users via email, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, or by copying the URL

Step 6 – Test your benchmark

Once you have created your benchmark we recommend testing if each section works as expected.

  1. To test your benchmark, go to Preview mode
  2. Choose from the multiple-choice answers to each of the questions in your benchmark 
  3. When you hit submit on each question, you should see the chart displaying the data from your answer in comparison to the other user answers
  4. Make sure you can see your benchmark as it was configured on Fliplet Studio’s edit mode. For example, if you enabled the option to email results or request assistance check if the buttons are working and that they open the correct email templates.
