There are several ways to get data from a remote source. Using an API is one way but you may want to consider getting data from a Fliplet data source which is the easiest to set up or using Fliplet’s Data Integration Service where the data isn’t on Fliplet’s cloud data sources and no API exists.

To use an API you will need to rely on a third party’s documentation to a large extent. They will describe the protocols for gaining access to the API and the possible options that are available to retrieve the data.

Fliplet can make API calls in much the same way that a website does. JavaScript can be run from the Developer Options. If local to a specific screen the JavaScript will be run when the screen loads. However it’s also possible to place the JavaScript in the global space to call it when an app opens or based on a user action on any screen.
