Uploading your app to your Google Developer Account

A guide to help you Upload your APK app file to Google Play store

If this is your first time uploading an APK to Google play store, we estimate that this process can take up to two hours. This guide will make sure that you have access to the information you will need beforehand and knowledge of where to find resources.

These are the 6 steps you need to run through to launch your app to the Google Play Store:

  1. Creating an application

  2. Store Listing

  3. App Releases

  4. Pricing & Distribution

  5. Content Rating

  6. Rolling your app out.

Note: Areas that are still incomplete will be highlighted with an exclamation point in the left-hand menu.

1. Creating an application

  • At the latest after Fliplet has built your app, you will need to create an application in your google developer account. This can be done by clicking on the blue button in the right-hand corner.
  • This will bring up a new pop-up window asking for you to name the App Project and define the default language
  • You will now have created a project for building your app and be taken to the store listings section of the Google Play

2. Filling out the Store Listings:

This section covers all the information that the app store requires the submission. It can be broken down into 7 bits of content that you need to provide.

  • Short description of the app. - 80 characters max

    • Here you need to add a short description of what your app does. This needs to be brief and informative, this description is an overview and not a marketing showpiece.
  • Full/Long description of the app - 4000 characters max

    • Here you can provide an expansive and detailed view of the app’s purpose, function and target audience
  • A high-res icon

    • Use the icon that was uploaded to Fliplet Studio. The icon should be a square image of 1024 × 1024 pixels resolution.
  • A feature graphic

    • This is a banner image that will sit at the top of your app's Google Play Store page. We recommend a rectangular image of 1024 pixels x500 pixels resolution.
  • Screenshots

    • We will provide these for you. You will just need to let your Customer Success Manager know which screens you would like us to send over to you. You can then upload the images to your Google developer account.
    • We recommend you choose the screens that best represent your app in both terms of visuals and functionality
  • Categorization

    • This section requires you to define which category your app best belongs to.
    • Choose a type:  We recommend you select the option Application over Game.

    • Choose the category which best describes your app. We would recommend Business, however, please choose which is best for you.

  • Confirm contact details

    • This will autofill with your Google developer account credentials. Just check this to make sure you're happy with who will be Google will contact if they need to.
  • Your privacy policy URL

    • Normally, this can be found at the bottom of your company’s main website.

3. App Release

Once you’ve finished with filling out the information for the app store listing, we recommend that you move onto App releases at the top of the left-hand menu. Here you will upload your APK app file.

To upload your APK app file you will need to click the Edit release button

This will take you to a new page that will allow you to add your APK app file. Either drag and drop your APK file or upload it from your computer.

Once you’ve upload your APK you need to add a release name and update the “what’s new in this release?”.

  • The Release name is an internal name for your app release project - so make it memorable and easy to find for future reference. This can be the name of the app or even the name of the app builder.

  • In the “what’s new in this release?” add a small paragraph covering why you're releasing an app, i.e

    • This is a brand new app

    • This is a major update adding X, Y & Z.

  • Once you’ve added these things click Save

4. Pricing & Distribution:

In Pricing & Distribution, you’ll cover if your app will be a paid app, contain advertising, which nations it will be available for and if your app is aimed at children.

We recommend the following options, if you have any questions please contact us at support@fliplet.com

  • Make your application free

  • Select the countries of your target audience - we recommend all countries.

  • Tick “No” for your app being Primarily Child-Directed.

  • State that your app will not contain ads *.

  • Skip Device Categories - This is for devices not compatible with Fliplet ie Smart Watches

  • Skip User Programs - This for Child focused apps

  • Consent to Google's Terms and Conditions

5. Content Rating (Need to have uploaded your APK before you do this)

The rating system is used to communicate familiar and locally-relevant content ratings to your users and help improve app engagement by targeting the right audience for your content.

How ratings are used:

  • Inform consumers, especially parents, of potentially objectionable content within an app

  • Block or filter your content in certain territories or to specific users where legally required

  • Evaluate your app’s eligibility for special developer programmes

To get an accurate rating you’ll need to enter some details in this questionnaire

  1. Click on Content Rating

  2. You should Review the information on the screen and add your email for the International Age Rating Coalition ( IARC) to contact you

  3. Click Continue

  4. Select a category that suits your app

  5. Then Complete the questionnaire which will be individual to your app.

  6. Click Calculate app rating

  7. On your rating summary page, click Apply rating to my app

Note:

  • To change any of your responses after you’ve completed a section, click Edit.

  • If you’ve started the questionnaire but want to finish later, click Save draft. Each app can have one draft questionnaire at a time.

6. Reviewing and Rolling out your app.

The next step is to publish your app to the Google Play store.

  1. You’ll need to head back to the “App releases” option of your Google Developer account and retrace your steps for when you added the APK file.

2. Click on Edit Release

3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click review

4 Finally, you just need to send your app for review before it can be rolled out to the app store.
